What is finasteride 5 mg tablet used for?

Finasteride is used to treat men with benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) and male pattern hair loss, also called androgenetic alopecia. BPH is caused by an enlarged prostate.

What is finasteride film coated tablets?

Finasteride tablets have a film coating which prevents contact with the active ingredient provided that the tablets have not been broken or crushed (see sections 4.6 and 6.6). Serum PSA concentration is correlated with patient age and prostatic volume, and prostatic volume is correlated with patient age.

What are the side effects of finasteride 5mg tablets?

Other side effects reported in some men are:

  • breast swelling or tenderness.
  • palpitations (feeling your heartbeat)
  • changes in the way your liver is working, which can be shown by a blood test.
  • pain in your testicles.
  • an inability to have an erection which may continue after stopping the medication.

Finasteride is used to shrink an enlarged prostate (benign prostatic hyperplasia or BPH) in adult men. It may be used alone or taken in combination with other medications to reduce symptoms of BPH and may also reduce the need for surgery.

Is finasteride harmful?

Finasteride is generally very safe. Taking too much is unlikely to harm you.

Does finasteride affect sperm?

Chronic treatment with finasteride daily does not affect spermatogenesis or semen production in young men.

Is finasteride good for prostate?

First, finasteride is known to decrease the size of the prostate gland by about 25%. When you biopsy a smaller gland, you are more likely to sample an area of cancer—or high-grade cancer—with your biopsy needle, compared to doing the same biopsy in a larger gland.
